Overview

The 1U E3.S node is the scale out building block for all flash storage layers that grow in small steps. Twelve E3.S drives on PCIe Gen5 provide up to 368 TB raw with full bandwidth to every bay, and two 400 Gb/s RDMA ports give the node more network throughput per rack unit than the 2U class.

It fits storage software that prefers many small nodes over a few large ones, such as scale out file systems, object stores and disaggregated NVMe over Fabrics targets. In a GPU cluster it is also the natural home for the metadata tier and for a fast scratch space, and it can be added one node at a time as the GPU count grows.

E3.S is the current enterprise flash form factor, with better cooling and higher density than U.2 in 1U. Hosts are single or dual AMD EPYC 9005 or dual Intel Xeon 6 with 256 GB to 768 GB of memory. Plan for about 1 kW per node.

Use cases

  • Scale out all flash storage
  • Metadata and scratch tiers
  • NVMe over Fabrics targets
  • Object storage for AI

This product is not a data center GPU system and does not require NVIDIA end user registration. Standard export documentation applies. Read about export compliance.

Compare it with the next class up or down

The nearest classes we quote are the 2U 24 bay all NVMe storage server and the 2U JBOD or flash expansion shelf. If neither is quite right, tell us the workload and we specify the system between them.
