NDIS
3 Network Device Driver |
Description
The NDIS 3.0 Network Driver uses the NDIS 3.0 Miniport
Wrapper as defined by Microsoft. Because it is a standard
Microsoft interface it can directly use the TCP/IP protocol
stack and routing protocols which are supplied with Windows
NT.
Configuration
An applet is provided to make installation easy. It
performs the network binding analysis and then terminates
using a network dialog box allows all necessary parameters
to be set for both the WAN and T1 Master cards. The dialog
box is fully integrated with Windows NT and Windows 95 installation
procedures.
Example
Applications
This driver is used typically in applications were
TCP/IP connectivity is needed. Windows NT 4.0 has a range
of built-in networking features, such as the TCP/IP- UDP protocol
stack. Steelhead Routing software which is available from
Microsoft can be added to Windows NT Server 4.0 to provide
routing protocols. RIP v2 for IP and OSPF protocols give high
speed performance not available in stand-alone router boxes.
An example of this kind of application is shown below;
