Linear Systems Ltd. has developed the Kernel Multiplexer
software application which can be used with the T1/WAN Master
communications cards. In some cases it may be useful to increase
bandwidth of T1 by bonding multiple T1 lines to create a larger
data pipe. The Kernel Driver together with the Kernel Multiplexer
may be used in this kind of application. Since both the T1
Master and WAN Master are two channel cards, a single card
may be used to drive two T1 lines to give a combined bandwidth
of 3 M bits/second. The WAN Master is a PCI card and has a
larger bus bandwidth which makes it possible to bond as many
as 6 channels.
The
WAN Master card has been tested in a P166 computer using the
Kernel Driver, with each channel running at 1.8M bits/second,
full duplex, with each pipe full and with a frame size of
1.5K bytes. The aggregate data rate was 7.2 Mbits/second.
Both the WAN Master and T1 Master can be used in Multiplexer
applications using the Kernel Driver.
The
combination of the WAN Master cards, the Kernel Multiplexer,
and IM-T1-CSUs can be used to transmit Full D1 MPEG 2 video
as shown in the diagram below.
