Showman 5000
5100 SERIES - OFF AIR RECEIVER-DEMODULATOR

Download the PDF brochures for this product (4 Parts)

In an attempt to rationalize our Showman range of products, we have withdrawn the under mentioned units. It should be noted that the stereo versions of the appropriate model will be perfectly satisfactory when used in mono mode. However, where applicable, NICAM Error Count now comes as standard on the SM5000 series instead of as previously, an optional extra.

The following Showman type numbers have now been withdrawn:

    The SM5112 B/G (mono)
    The SM5116 B/G (mono)

    The SM5126 PAL D/K (mono)

The SM5123 is available to order on a minimum quantity of 12 pieces.

For the monitoring of off air signals in OB applications, or in Studio and Cable Head End applications, the use of high quality off air receiver is essential.

In order to meet a number of applications and differing requirements for the various world wide television signal standards, it has been necessary to build into the ubiquitous SHOWMAN a number of 'optional extras' as standard equipment.

The SHOWMAN now has 198 preset and easily selectable channels, IF output and an 'F' type antenna input socket. There are Serial as well as Parallel remote control D type connectors. Most of the front panel controls can be remoted via the remote control sockets.

By utilizing a lightweight, compact, and reliable switch mode power supply, the SHOWMAN can be operated in most parts of the world as it will accept input voltages of 85 to 260 VAC, 50 or 60 Hz. without the need to change voltage tappings or fuse ratings.

The unit meets IEC 850 Safety standards, and also, under the provisions of EU Directive(s) 89/336/EEC and 92/31/EEC, meets the following:

EN 50081-1 General Emissions Standard for light industrial applications
EN 55013 Sound and Television Broadcast Receivers and Associated Equipment
EN 55082-2 Generic Immunity Standard for industrial applications

By offering 4 video outputs, and 4 audio outputs, SHOWMAN obviates the need for output distribution amplifiers, thus reducing installation costs.

SHOWMAN is compact, simple to operate, and offers excellent value for money.

Technical Features
TUNING HEAD
The latest synthesized Tuning Head provides a low noise front end with a good sensitivity, stability and conforming to the latest CENELEC standards. A micro-controller directly accessing the Tuner Head provides a very accurate and stable channel selection.
IF STAGE A phase locked video IF stage has true synchronous demodulation with active carrier regeneration. This gives ultra linear demodulation, good inter modulation performance and excellent pulse response.
VIDEO OUTPUT STAGE The video stage has a high performance amplifier with first class video specification, capable of driving four 75 Ohm outputs.
AUDIO OUTPUT STAGE A quasi split sound processor is incorporated which suits all FM standards including I, B/G and D/K. The FM demodulator is also compatible with the B/G, FM Stereo/Dual Mono system, featuring sound carriers at 5.5 and 5.74 MHz. All audio outputs are electronically balanced and of low impedance. The IEC/EBU 958 Digital Audio Interface is compatible with the industry standard for digital for digital audio as used in CD players, D.A.T's and DCC's. Four XLR output connectors can be user configured to give: dual NICAM o/p, Dual FM plus NICAM o/p, or for the NICAM to default to either FM audio or silence in the absence of a NICAM carrier.
NICAM The NICAM output has an automatic mute which silences digital data and may switch to conventional FM sound when the error rate exceeds the user defined limit. State of the art Bitstream Conversion DAC combined with an integrated 4 times oversampling digital filter gives near CD quality NICAM audio. This obviates the need for a 15KHz low pass filter with inherent phase distortions at higher frequencies. A NICAM QPSK (6.552 or 5.85 MHz) carrier output, and NICAM data and clock outputs are available.
